How to measure equipment for a carrying case
Record equipment dimensions, protrusions and accessories together. Prepare measurements, photographs and use requirements for a custom carrying case quotation.

Start with an equipment inventory
The main device is only part of the layout. List each charger, cable, probe, battery and small component that will travel in the same case. Equipment may occupy a different space during use and transport, so record its transport configuration.
- Record the name, quantity and approximate weight of each item.
- Distinguish detached parts from connections that remain on the device.
- Note which items are removed most often so the layout can account for access order.
Mark the three dimensions on a photograph
Consider the orientation you want the device to have inside the case. Mark length, width and height on a photograph and state the measurement unit. Keep units consistent. If you use a technical drawing, include its revision or the exact equipment model.
- Include handles, controls, feet, fixed connectors and other protrusions, or dimension them separately.
- Specify the transport position of movable parts instead of assuming they can be detached.
- Use front, side and top photographs to clarify shapes that one view cannot explain.
Separate equipment, interior and exterior dimensions
Equipment dimensions are not finished case dimensions. Compartments and protective materials need a separate layout assessment. For an existing rigid case, record usable internal space and the lid and base depths. Exterior dimensions describe the space occupied in a vehicle or storage area.
- For an existing case, share the make, model and interior drawing.
- Show internal obstructions such as wheel housings, corners or fittings.
- Provide actual equipment dimensions and requirements instead of adding an arbitrary allowance; layout clearances are agreed for the project.
Describe how the case will be used
Hand carrying, shoulder carrying and vehicle use may call for different arrangements for the same device. State the total load, access frequency, whether accessories travel together and the target quantity. Share any water, dust, impact or other technical requirements for assessment against the specific model and application.
Check the layout with the actual equipment
The measurement file starts the quotation process. Drawing or sample review considers fit, removal of items, cable placement and closure together. Record changes with photographs and revised dimensions. Sample scope and the conditions for starting production are agreed during the quotation process.
Your quotation checklist
- Device model and transport orientation
- Length × width × height and unit
- Weight, protrusions and sensitive areas
- Accessory list and quantity of each item
- Photographs or current technical drawing
- Use environment, target quantity and existing case model, if any
You can start by sharing your use requirements and approximate quantity. We can clarify missing measurements during the project discussion.
